Vitamin A

Vitamin A refers to a group of fat-soluble organic compounds that includes retinol, retinal and retinoic acid. The carotenes α-carotene, β-carotene, γ-carotene and the xanthophyll β-cryptoxanthin function as provitamin A in herbivores and omnivore animals that possess the enzyme β-carotene 15,15'-dioxygenase. Vitamin A is found in numerous animal products whereas provitamins A are found in plants.
